About Xpress:

As we scale, we are building out Xpress AI — the intelligence engine powering our product, pricing, and operational decisions. We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help architect the next generation of our data infrastructure and power intelligent decision-making at scale.

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a foundational member of the Xpress AI team. You’ll design and manage data pipelines, build scalable architecture, and enable advanced analytics and machine learning across Xpress. This role is suited for a systems thinker who thrives in high-scale, high-impact environments and enjoys collaborating across engineering, product, and data teams.

As Xpress AI continues to grow in scope, this role may evolve into a technical leadership track, owning domain-specific architecture and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Infrastructure & Pipeline Design

• Architect and build batch and real-time data pipelines to power analytics and AI use cases.
• Own the development and optimization of ETL/ELT systems using tools like DBT, Airflow, and Kafka.
• Ensure high performance, availability, and fault tolerance of data platforms.

2. Tooling, Monitoring & Governance

• Implement data observability tools and quality checks across systems.
• Establish documentation and standards for schema design, transformation logic, and data access.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with data analysts, product managers, and ML engineers to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
• Support experimentation and A/B testing frameworks from a data infrastructure standpoint.

4. System Performance & Scalability

• Proactively improve performance across compute, storage, and data access layers.
• Monitor resource usage and optimize costs across cloud infrastructure.

Ideal Person:

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or backend roles focused on large-scale data systems.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and cloud-native data platforms (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, or similar).
• Hands-on experience with ETL orchestration tools (Airflow, DBT) and data streaming technologies (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Excellent understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, and analytics architectures.
• Experience working in high-growth environments or startups.
• Strong communicator and team player, able to bridge technical depth with business understanding.
