Description

The Accounting Supervisor is involved in most, if not all, the aspects of accounting and oversees the day-to-day activities of the accounting team. They ensure that the organization’s finance function is well-organized as well as produces timely and accurate financial statements and management accounts, thus achieving compliance with organizational policies and statutory requirements. They also analyze data and understand the financial performance and position of the organization in order to develop suitable accounting policies to meet reporting requirements and to produce any special reports required by their superiors.

 

The Accounting Supervisor leads a team of accounting specialists or associates and works closely with the external auditors, bankers, and regulators. They must keep current with changing statutory requirement snd tax laws and determine the implications of such changes to financial reporting. They also work to support the Executive Director and Finance Committee of the Organization to help define the organization’s accounting policies, processes, and reporting.

 

Work Scope and Functions:


SCOPE:

  • Supervision of Accounting Personnel
  • Approval of all transactions prior to recording
  • Approval of Accounts Payable Vouchers prior to preparation of checks
  • Financial Reporting
  • Taxes and Duties
  • Budget Tracking
  • Committee Reporting


FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise the finance team in financial accounting and reporting
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and disclosure notes
  • Maintain accurate journal entries and allocations
  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Manage and approve the reconciliation of accounts and provide analysis for the organizations’ financial transactions
  • Support strategic and business planning activities
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Support working capital management
  • Manage accounts payable and receivables to help the organization determine working capital needs and funding strategies
  • Process business transactions and reports using information technology tools
  • Operate accounting information systems efficiently and effectively
  • Extract data and provide analysis for management using relevant accounting information systems or software
  • Prepare financial statements, business activity reports and forecasts for management and external stakeholders
  • Tax and Statutory Reporting
  • Prepare reports and returns in compliance with local and national statutory requirements


  • Graduate of B.S. Accountancy
  • Preferred - Certified Public Accountant
  • 5 years experience in Accountancy, 2 years of which in a supervisory position
  • Experience in the management of their team’s development and performance
